Drug Treatment

Every year millions of Americans struggle with drug abuse and every year thousands will seek treatment at a drug rehabilitation facility. Drug rehab facilities are designed to treat a variety of addictions types and varying levels of drug abuse.  Facilities often offer different programs that cater to the unique needs of every patient.

Who Should Consider Drug Treatment?

Drug Treatment

Addiction is defined as the physical or psychological dependence on a substance, or the abnormal tolerance of a person to a substance. The focus of a drug treatment plan is to treat the patient’s physical and psychological addiction, while giving them the tools they need to be successful following treatment.

Anyone who feels as though their drug use is negatively affecting their health, professional life or social relationships should start considering treatment programs. Users often find that their entire focus is around obtaining new drugs and finding places to use them. Most addicts will continue to use drugs despite being aware of the negative effects they are having on their health, and many put themselves into debt trying to fund their habit.

Different Types of Drug Treatment

There are a wide range of program types available to meet the needs of every individual:

  • Outpatient drug treatment. At an outpatient program, patients attend regularly scheduled appointments with counselors, medical professionals and group therapy sessions but return home in the evenings. There are both regular outpatient programs and intensive outpatient programs.
  • Residential drug treatment. Residential programs require patients to move into a facility where they will receive counseling, medical support and group therapy sessions. There are often other activities meant to help the residents relax and recover while they receive treatment.
  • Holistic drug treatment. Holistic drug treatment programs strive to help patients achieve a more balanced lifestyle as a whole. Treatment often incorporates practices like yoga, acupuncture and meditation in addition to the other aspects of treatment. The focus is to treat the patients entirely instead of just focusing on the addiction.
  • Specialty treatment programs. ¬†There are women-only treatment programs, programs that cater specifically to teenagers and even luxury treatment programs. These specialty programs are designed to fit the unique needs of their patients.
